With the help of Origin Room Break, Brain Power students managed to have a field trip without even leaving our headquarters! Each of our classrooms was turned into a fantastic “escape room,” and our students (of different ages) had to work together to solve a series of riddles and puzzles in order to win! We had a blast (literally!) at the Dunlap Observatory in Richmond Hill on May 14th! The Astronuts (yes, Astro-nuts!) Space Camp was phenomenal as many students received the incredible opportunity to talk to astronauts from the ISS and participate in many educational astronomy-related afternoon activities, including hanging out at the Brain Power booth – with awesome brain puzzles, games, and more.

Brain Power’s Public Speaking students meet with former PM Pierre Elliott Trudeau’s (yup, Justin’s dad!) friend Brooke Johnson, a famous Canadian actress, at the Brampton Rose Theatre! It was a fascinating evening of history, politics, intrigue, and discussions on performance and presentation skills! Meeting Brooke Johnson!

Brain Power was thrilled to take part in the Association of Bright Children of Ontario Conference! This one-day conference was a showcase of innovative and renowned educators and education researchers and Brain Power was there to help host the event! Getting ready to win some friends and influence some people!
Brain Power’s book club had an enlightening time reading Dale Carnegie’s classic self-help book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” (1936). A classic in the genre, Carnegie’s book was the American guidebook to social relations for generations of successful (and would-be-successful) professionals.

We discussed the positives and negatives of Carnegie’s approach to human relations, including the ethics of “winning” (not making!) friends and “influencing” (or maybe manipulating?) people.

Brain Power was excited to have Dave Silverberg join our Public Speaking students to share his poetic passion and knowledge! Dave Silverberg is the founder and artistic director of Toronto Poetry Project. He has performed poetry across Canada, including at a TEDx Talk event in Toronto, Vancouver Poetry Slam, and Saskatoon’s top poetry slam, “Tonight It’s Poetry.” He writes for BBC, Washington Post, Vice Magazine, NOW Magazine and other publications.
