What's Happening at Brain Power

Into the Woods

JANUARY 19TH, 2016

Brain Power students attended a performance of Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” (1986) at the University of Toronto’s beautiful Hart House Theatre. Bringing together beloved and not-so-beloved characters from classic fairy tales, “Into the Woods” manages to make the familiar unfamiliar, provoking new insights out of stories we all thought we knew. Our students also got the amazing opportunity to participate in a post-show talk with the actors and director!

Meeting Alvin Roth

JANUARY 19TH, 2016

Some of our lucky Public Speaking students got to meet with Nobel Prize Winner, Dr. Alvin Roth, from Stanford University! Dr. Roth is the author of numerous books, including his most recent, “Why Gets What and Why?” (2015). Brain Power took part in Roth’s incredible lecture on micro-economics, “Who Gets What and Why?“, at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. Students got their books autographed, and had a great Q & A session with him.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

JANUARY 18TH, 2016

Discussing Victor Hugo’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” with musical accompaniment! Brain Power’s Book Club had a great time reading Victor Hugo’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”  Written in 1831, Hugo’s classic tale of the hunchbacked Quasimodo, the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda, and the villainous Archdeacon Frolio still had the power to keep us on the edge of our seats! In keeping with the theme, we enjoyed some French pastries and the musical accompaniment of a wandering accordionist. Click to Enlarge Images

Watership Down

NOVEMBER 18TH, 2015

Reading “Watership Down” with one of our special guests! Brain Power’s Book Club had a fun and thought-provoking evening discussing Richard Adams’s “Watership Down.” We followed the adventures of Fiver, Hazel, Bigwig, Silver, and the other rabbits as they attempt to make their new home in Watership Down. Ecology and environmentalism were the themes of the day, and we were joined by some very special guests: real live bunnies! Click to Enlarge Images
