Public Speaking Contest
Let your voice be heard! Brain Power’s “Speak Your Mind” Public Speaking Contest gives students from Grades 4-12 the chance to present their ideas on real-world issues in a compelling way.
Whether you’re addressing , this is the perfect stage to develop your speaking skills and share your perspective.
Speech Topics:
- Grades 4-5: The Best Invention in HistoryStudents in this category will deliver a 2.5-3.5 minute speech on what they believe is the best invention in history. This topic encourages young students to think critically about the world around them and consider the impact of progress, determining which changes have led to lasting impact. Judges will look for clear and logical ideas, creativity, and enthusiasm.
- Grades 6-8: The Transformative Power of EducationStudents in this category will present a 3.5-4.5 minute persuasive speech on the impact of education on youth. The topic may address education in general, education throughout history, or examine actual case studies of the impact of education on underserved communities or different cultures and countries around the world. Judges will evaluate the strength of their argument, their ability to engage meaningfully with the topic, and the effectiveness of their presentation skills.
- Grades 9+: What is Freedom of Speech?Students in this category will deliver a 4.5-5.5 minute speech on the question of freedom of speech and how it is being debated in the world today. This challenging theme requires meaningful consideration of the topic and a deep analysis of the implications of unrestricted discourse on the global stage. Students may consider freedom of speech in relation to advances in technology, differences between countries, and/or differences in personal belief systems. They should deliver a nuanced reflection on the impacts of freedom of speech – both positive and negative—on society. Judges will assess originality, delivery, and the ability to inspire thoughtful reflection.
Prizes:
- $150 cash prize for 1st prize
- $50 gift certificates for 2nd and 3rd prize
- 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners also receive trophies and swag bags!
Submission Guidelines:
- Submissions must be saved as a Word document or PDF.
- Submissions must be written in 12-point font in either Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri.

Submission Deadline:
- To be eligible, entries must be received by March 9, 2026.
- Semi-Finalist Video Submission Deadline: March 30, 2026.
Event Date:
- Finalists will be invited to present their speeches live at the “Speak Your Mind” Championship on April 18, 2026.
