We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for a half-day Public Speaking Camp designed for students in Grades 4–5, developed by Brain Power’s award-winning team of PhDs and public speaking experts.

Brain Power’s Public Speaking program guides bright and high-achieving students toward reaching their full potential as speakers, rhetoricians, and persuaders. Students will learn Brain Power’s time-tested techniques for delivering clear, engaging, and memorable speeches, presentations, and persuasive communications.

These skills will help students build the confidence needed to achieve their academic and personal goals, growing into leading thinkers and communicators.

In the week of camp, students will learn the importance of: 

  1. Using emotion to tell a story
  2. Building their authenticity and credibility as speakers
  3. Using evidence to convince their audience of their point of view on an important issue

Students will build their public speaking skills using Aristotle’s rhetorical theory: ethos (credibility), pathos (emotion), and logos (logic). To achieve these skills, in each session, students will; 

  1. Learn age-appropriate theory related to public speaking and engaging an audience
  2. Engage in interactive activities to directly practice what they have learned
  3. Work on their own unique piece of oral communication to be delivered to a supportive audience in the final session

Each session ends with a full debrief, where students reflect on what they have learned, what they need to keep thinking about, and what they will learn in the following session.

This program empowers young public speakers to gain confidence in their oral communication skills as well as how to identify persuasive techniques in others (including in advertisements). We teach students how to think about the media they are consuming.
